Governor and Stepson Attacked in New York

On October 4, 2024, former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa, were attacked by a group of teenagers while walking on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The incident occurred around 8:35 p.m. near a McDonald’s on 2nd Avenue, close to their home. The altercation began as a verbal dispute, which quickly escalated when five assailants began physically assaulting both men.

Paterson, 70, sustained injuries to his head, while Sliwa, 20, suffered significant facial injuries. Both were taken to NY-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where they were treated and later released in stable condition. Police arrested two suspects, aged 12 and 13, on charges related to the assault and are continuing to search for the remaining individuals involved​.
