Blind Dog Dave and the Pirate Throng

The Business Council of New York wisely decided to book David’s new band for their annual conference at Bolton’s Landing on Lake George in September of 2023. This kicked off the decision to make the band available for other performances from festivals to corporate shindigs. The seven piece band features New York music legend Liberty DeVitto and a host of rockers including Dr. Simon Mills as musical director. The governor performs classic R&B and rock songs from Otis Redding to Jimmy Hendrix.

Blind Dog Dave and the Pirate Throng is a unique musical project led by former New York Governor David Paterson. Known for his sharp political mind and ability to navigate complex political landscapes, Paterson also channels his passion for music through this eclectic and lively band. With a style that blends rock, blues, and funk, the band features a colorful cast of musicians who take on pirate personas, adding a playful, theatrical element to their performances.

Paterson, who is visually impaired, earned the nickname “Blind Dog Dave” and uses his platform to celebrate resilience and creativity. The Pirate Throng, his supporting band, embraces the spirit of adventure and rebellion, drawing on themes of freedom and mischief in their music.

The band’s performances are known for their high energy, charismatic stage presence, and a mix of original songs and classic covers. Their music often reflects on themes like overcoming adversity, empowerment, and the joy of living in the moment, blending upbeat rhythms with meaningful lyrics.

Though rooted in entertainment, Blind Dog Dave and the Pirate Throng also serves as an expression of Paterson’s advocacy for inclusivity and disability awareness, showing that creativity and leadership come in many forms. Their shows offer not just music, but an engaging experience filled with personality and inspiration.
